Bursting with anticipation! Bursting with excitement!

These are fun images!

How about fireworks bursting with color in the night sky?

This fun activity was inspired by the image of fireworks: sparkling bursts of color tossed in the air like confetti!

Colorful fireworks displays are often part of New Year's Eve celebrations. The event is noisy and colorful and heartwarming, and a great send-off into the new year.

Kids will love making these amazing fireworks pictures on New Year's Eve, or for any festive celebration.

Fireworks craft for kids

The local community comes together to organize an annual barbecue to accompany a fireworks display. This is always done before midnight to allow the whole family to enjoy the celebration.

You can extend a New Year's Eve celebration with your preschoolers with a fireworks craft.

Only a few supplies are needed to set up this activity.

Supplies for confetti fireworks

We made our own confetti by hole punching scraps of paper. The more confetti you have the better, so be prepared to do lots of hole punching! This is a great fine motor activity for kids to do beforehand.

Make confetti by hole punching paper

The desktop 3-hole punch is easy to use and does most of the work for you. Be sure to supervise kids when using this or any office tool.

A hand-held single hole punch is great for working those hand and finger muscles! This tool comes with a variety of cut-out shapes to add even more interest to this art activity.

Try a combination of different hole punch tools to make lots of colorful confetti.

Instructions for confetti fireworks

Apply glue to paper to resemble fireworks pattern

1. Spread glue in lines on the construction paper to resemble fireworks. They look a bit like spiders!

You can draw lines with chalk for younger kids to follow if preferred.

There doesn't have to be a set pattern for the resulting picture. Kids can be creative with the design of the glue lines.

Press paper onto confetti with glued side down

2. Spread paper confetti in a tray or on a large piece of cardboard. Lay the glued side of the construction paper face down on the confetti and rub gently over the paper with your hand.

3. Lift the paper and turn it face up to discover fireworks!

You can add bits of confetti to fill in places where you want more color. Pinch confetti with finger tips and sprinkle over the picture.

Ready to get bursting with creativity?

This fun activity engages creative and fine motor skills, and is largely child-led. The resulting picture will make a beautiful decoration for your celebration.
