The easiest crafts are often the most fun to do, especially when there's glitter.
Toddlers and preschoolers will love making these sparkling star ornaments to decorate the tree or give as gifts to friends and family members.
Let's talk glitter!
A biodegradable glitter is recommended for kids crafts. Look for this online or in craft stores.
Plastic glitter is not environmentally friendly and takes years to decompose.
You can also replace glitter with other decorations such as paper confetti. You can easily make your own with a hole punch and shiny paper.
Kids can dive into this activity with few instructions. Simply set out the star shapes, a glue stick and biodegradable glitter or paper confetti and let the creativity begin.
The results are so beautiful kids will want to make stars for everyone!
Sparkling star craft
Step 1.
Cut star shapes from glitter foam sheets, or regular foam sheets. You can also use pre-cut foam star shapes.
- If you don't have a star shape template in your toolkit, look for a star image on a greeting card, wrapping paper or store flyer. You can also use a star shaped cookie cutter.
Provide pre-cut star shapes for younger children. Older kids can trace, or draw, then cut out the shapes.
Step 2.
Spread glue on the stars with glue stick. Or spread white school glue with a paint brush!
Step 3.
Sprinkle gold or silver biodegradable glitter or paper confetti (this link shows you how to make paper confetti) on the stars.
- Shake glitter from the container, or pour some in a dish and pick up the flakes between pinched fingers for an excellent fine motor activity.
Step 4.
Make a loop with a piece of narrow ribbon or chenille stem. Attach a loop to the back of each star with tape.
Your sparkling stars will glitter and shine on the Christmas tree!
